A STATE-of-the-art theatre venue in Blackburn is nearing completion after a mammoth fundraising effort.
Now the success of the Red Brick Theatre appeal -- which raised £365,000 in just over two years -- is being celebrated with a special evening of entertainment next Friday.
Special guests from the world of sport, radio, television and entertainment will join the celebrations at the County Hotel, Yew Tree Drive, Blackburn, from 7.30pm.
Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, of Church, who plays Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street, will be taking part in a question and answer session.
Julie, who is expecting a baby, said of the appeal: "This is something I am very keen to support.
"It is brilliant that there is going to be a theatre where touring companies and local amateur groups can perform." The fundraising effort has ensured the future of the building in Bolton Road, which is to be renamed the Thwaites Theatre after the town's brewery became the project's major sponsor.
"The theatre is due to open in the summer.
Project director of the appeal Michael Berry said other guests will include Lord Patel and former England and Blackburn Rovers captain Ronnie Clayton.
Mr Berry said he was delighted Julie would be attending and hoped guests would ask her some interesting questions.
There are limited tickets available for the evening at £5 each and anyone interested can contact Mr Berry on 01254 57663.
