ALONG with everyone else who uses Corporation Park in Blackburn, I was delighted when the news finally came through that the Council had finally won the bid for Heritage Fund money. (LET, April 16).

Corporation Park is a beautiful park and is much enjoyed by those who use it. Of course, a huge amount of work needs to be done in the park and now it can be. I believe the final result will be well worth the wait and make the park a genuine attraction.

Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the "Terror Park" headline on your report. The council, along with local residents, including the park supporters' group, have been working hard to improve matters in the park.

Your headline was in extremely poor taste. It can only undermine both the work that is being done and people's perception of the park. There are too many people who are afraid to enter the park and your headline can only make that worse.

I believe you have done yourself and the local community a disservice with such tawdry tabloid-style tactics.

Work on the park is likely to take quite some time to complete, with detailed costings yet to be finalised. However, improvements have already begun and I believe this year's Arts in the Park festival will be at least as much a success as last year's. There is much to look forward to and much to enjoy already. I would encourage everyone to use and enjoy the park.
