REGARDING Mr Brown's reply to my earlier letter and his defence of working parents (Star letter April 19th) on the issue of parents who drop their children off at school.

Of course there will always be exceptions , Mr Brown's case being one of them, but the fact remains that MANY parents could walk their children to school or put them on public transport.

Apart from helping reduce the effects of pollution, just think how it would help to reduce the congestion on our roads that they also cause and don't forget that there same parents also 'pick up' their children as well.

Furthermore a recent government study on children's health has concluded that one in ten of the children in Great Britain are obese and guess what one of the reasons given for this is? Lack of exercise because of the school run.

And finally, in answer to your question Mr Brown, yes I do walk on my local journeys, I do recycle all my rubbish and for 30 years until very recently I ran to work and back and left my car in the garage!
