I SEE from your Star edition of 29th March, St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council have received an application for the erection of a 15 metre high lattice mast at the junction of the M62 and Clock Face Road at Crows Nest Farm, Bold Heath.

I hope that local residents will oppose the application as we did in Clock Face Road to the 'One 2 One' mast application which was proposed only 10 metres away from the 'orange' mast which has already been erected without anyone being able to object as it was erected in 'secret'. Another mast has been applied for in Rainford.

If you have access to the internet have a look round for the number of sensible councils who have banned them, including the whole of Kent County Council.

May I refer you to a column in "The Daily Mail" dated Friday 6th, March "A mobile phone company has been banned from erecting a mast because of health fears. The decision is the first of its kind by government planing inspectors."

They rejected an application by 'Orange' to erect a 30 ft mast in a residential area because of the serious harm it could cause to those living nearby.

So I urge local residents to oppose the planning permission of this proposal. By the way, the company appealed to John Prescott's department of the environment transport and regions inspectors who also turned it down.

St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council has a Labour majority, so I do hope they are prepared to follow their own government's guidelines.

Mr JC Toman, Garton Lane, Clock Face.
