RESIDENTS in part of the Whittlefield area of Burnley are the first to be invited to take part in a "Down Your Way" initiative.

Labour councillors in the Burnley West county council division are piloting the new way of keeping in touch with residents from Saturday.

A special edition of Labour Party News has been delivered to four areas of Whittlefield.

On the back page is a large tick symbol which doubles as a window poster.

Any resident who wants to speak to one of their councillors has only to put the poster in the window.

Local councillor Alice Thornber has joined with Labour's candidate in Burnley west to officially launch the venture in the Gawthorpe Edge, Cumbrian Way, Ighten Road and Ighenhill Park Lane areas.

They will tour the area from 11am on Saturday, calling at any house displaying a poster.

Marcus commented: "Unlike the traditional ward surgeries, residents don't even have to leave their house if they want to see us.

"With the Down Your Way initiative we go to the residents rather than expecting them to come and see us."

The scheme is to be extended to the rest of Burnley West, which includes all of Padiham, Hapton, Clowbridge and Deerplay.
