Haresfinch 32 Heysham Atoms 10
FINCH ended their season in fine style with a well-deserved first-ever win over the Atoms which hopefully will be enough to maintain their Division Two status.
An outstanding first-half display saw the homesters turn around with a 22-0 interval lead and although Heysham had the better of the second half, they never looked likely to take the spoils.
Two tries by outstanding centre John Jackson and one by stand-off Phil Ball, plus four goals by loose-forward Anthony Seabrook and one by Ball, put Finch firmly in the driving seat at half-time.
And when Jackson sent second-row Ian Derbyshire over for a try goaled by Colin Rogers, Finch looked to have made sure of the points.
A 50-yard touchdown by substitute Ste Ratcliffe completed the home scoring but it was Heysham who dominated the final quarter and as Finch tired they took advantage to grab two tries, one converted.
Jackson was the Franco's Wholesale Ltd. man-of-the-match, while hard-working second-row Gareth Brown took the Fran's News Players award, with prop Ste Marsh and scrum-half Stuart Simmons also worthy of mention.
