Dewsbury Moor 14 Thatto Heath Crusaders 36

HEATH clinched promotion from Division Two of the National Conference League at the first time of asking with this victory over strugglers Dewsbury Moor following a midweek drubbing of Castleford Panthers.

An early interception try by winger Steve McNamara, converted by Steve Beard, and two drop goals by loose-forward Andy Robinson, gave Dewsbury a flying start, but Heath were never in any real danger of losing only their second league of the season.

Hooker-cum-stand-off Darren Mitchell was the star for the visitors, scoring four tries, two in each half. A long-range effort by winger Mike Woods, plus two goals by Wayne Jackman, completed Heath's first-half tally as they led 16-8 at the break.

And they quickly underlined their superiority after the interval, adding three further tries before Dewsbury could reply to put the result beyond doubt.

Winger Neil Prescott grabbed the first, showing great strength and determination to cross despite the attention of several defenders. Then his break paved the way for Mitchell to complete his hat-trick. And full-back Jackman crossed after good work by Mitchell. Two further goals by Jackman made it 32-8.

Dewsbury claimed a consolation try by sub Blakeway, goaled by Beard, but Mitchell fittingly had the final say, outpacing the home defence to complete his four-try haul.
