A SCHOOL which has more than 200 pupils from the St Helens area, has received a second outstanding OFSTED report.

Pupils at St Edmund Arrowsmith High School, Ashton, were described as "mature young adults with outstanding attitudes towards their work".

Inspectors also found examination results at KS3 and in GCSEs to be "significantly above the national average due to the excellence of teaching at the school", while the attitudes, values and behaviour of the pupils were described as "excellent".

Headteacher, Peter Phillips is delighted with the report and feels it fully reflects the progress made. He said: "Since our last inspection in 1996 we have all worked hard to further develop what was then described as a very good school. This report confirms our belief that the school has made significant progress. This excellent report is a tribute to the magnificent efforts of the staff, the support shown by our parents and the work put in by our children. We are all very proud".
