TWO disabled pals have set off on a world record breaking attempt to travel the Isle of Man TT course on disabled scooters.

Although the world famous motorbike race has been cancelled due to foot and mouth, nothing has deterred Tony Palmer and Geoff West from their own mission on wheels.

And the jet-setting pair will even be joined by veteran comedian Sir Norman Wisdom OBE who has asked if he can accompany them on part of the journey.

Tony and Geoff, from the Broadening Our Horizons charity fund-raising team, are already world record holders for travelling from Land's End to John O' Groats and back on disabled scooters.

Geoff, 54, of Hempshaw Avenue, Loveclough, Rossendale, suffers from arthritis and diabetes.

Tony, a 63-year-old former lorry driver, of Moorland Road, Burnley, was forced to stop work as a chef because of a severe epilepsy condition.

The fund-raising friends picked up their support vehicle from Vantage Garage, Accrington Road, Burnley. Their tickets were provided by Altham Travel and the scooters from Ashdale Healthcare with a donation from P3 Computers.

Tony said: "Sir Norman Wisdom will meet us on the start line, along with the Mayor and Mayoress of Douglas who will set us off.

Sir Norman has asked if he can accompany us part of the way. Halfords at Burnley have donated a crash helmet for him -- we don't want him doing one of his famous tumbles!"

Tony and Geoff will travel the course in reverse direction from the famous race, and will be accompanied by Peter Baldacchino from Cornwall and Mike Hilton of Darwen, support vehicle driver.

They are raising money for the "Oh No's" singing group from the Gannow Community Centre to help them get to an international event in Cape Town, South Africa.
