TWO teenage youths accused of rape have had the charges against them dropped.

The pair, aged 19 and 16 and both from Accrington, were due before Hyndburn magistrates yesterday afternoon but the Crown Prosecution Service said the charges against them had been withdrawn and the men would not be appearing.

The older of the two, Mehboob Hussain Ditta, of Frederick Street, Accrington, was charged with raping a female over 16 and indecent assault.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged with rape.

The charges dated from events alleged to have taken place at an address in Stevenson Street East on April 17.
