BURNLEY RES 2 - PORT VALE RES 1

THE Clarets reserves signed off their home campaign in winning style thanks to goals from Joel Pilkington and Michael Devenney at Turf Moor last night.

Mick Docherty's young side stayed on course for a top-three finish in the Avon Insurance League Premier Division thanks to an impressive first-half showing.

Devenney put the Clarets ahead when he forced home a rebound following a Chris Scott piledriver and Pilkington then made it 2-0 after half-an-hour following a lovely John Boardman through-ball.

John Williamson also shaved a post and Paul Barratt had an effort cleared off the line before Vale hit back after half-time when George O'Callaghan made it 2-1 20 minutes in.

But Burnley did enough to bank all three points and almost restored their two-goal cushion when Andrew Leeson connected with a fierce drive that was tipped over by Dean Delaney.

The reserves are quickly back in action when they head for the Midlands tonight to take on Birmingham City at Hednesford FC.

Burnley: Salisbury, Scott, Leeson, Davis, Boardman, Pilkington, Waine, Bowden, Devenney, Williamson, Barratt (O'Neill 46).
