Leigh Miners Rangers 52 Redhill 6 THE Miners produced a ten-try feast as they demolished the Premier Division strugglers Redhill and improved their chances of clinching the runners-up spot.

Centre Mark Hudspith was the star of the show with a haul of one try and six goals while three others each grabbed a couple of touchdowns.

The first try came after seven minutes as Aussie full-back Grant Parker ducked under a couple of tackles and shot in for a try that Hudspith converted.

Half-backs Sean Phoenix and Paul Redford orchestrated play to perfection, setting up Hudspith to power over out wide. The Miners were soon 16-0 ahead when winger Steve Clarke finished off a crisp handling move to breaking a couple of tackles to score.

On the half hour Redhill pulled a converted try back through hooker Tony Handforth. Miners were quick to respond when sub hooker Lee Lomax twisted out of dummy half to touchdown.

The second half was better still. Centre Mark Sarsfield had the scoreboard moving again when he cut through to the line from a planned move.

Ex-Leigh star James Arkwright celebrated his debut with a try, taking advantage of a spilled bomb. Hudspith converted for 32-6.

Redhill could not get the better of a disciplined Leigh pack, ably led by prop Danny Flannery. He might not have got on the scoresheet but his efforts brought him the man of the match award. One of his penetrating runs made room for brother Steve to make a typical break and power in for another try. Hudspith added goal number six.

Ten minutes from time Clarke scooted 80 metres for his second and from another burst by the winger, Steve Flannery followed up to grab his second.

The Miners finished in style with Sarsfield chip ahead, regathering and racing through for another six-pointer.
