THE heroes of Gallipoli, who earned the Lancashire Fusiliers their greatest honours, will be commemorated on Sunday (April 29).

The massed ranks of the local fusilier attachment and LF veterans, together with civic dignitaries and members of the public, will gather in Bury for the annual Gallipoli parade and service.

Serving Fusiliers will march through the town with drums beating and bayonets fixed, as is their civic right, in honour of those who gave their lives during the First World War offensive.

The storming of the beaches on April 24 earned the LFs their famous "six VCs before breakfast".

Sunday's parade will form up outside the Castle Armoury Drill Hall at 10.45am and march to the nearby Bury Parish Church for a service at 11.30am.

After the service, the ranks will reform and return to the drill hall via Market Street and Silver Street.
