THE hunt for two men who robbed a Heysham post office is continuing this week.

The men raided the post office on Main Street at 9.10am on Friday morning, using lump hammers to smash the protective glass screen.

The two men, who were both wearing balaclavas, threatened the postmaster and forced him to open the safe.

After taking the money out of the safe, they left the area in a car.

Police believe they have now recovered the car, which had been stolen in the same area the previous day.

A police spokesman said: "The CID in Morecambe are currently looking at all the evidence and investigating."

Robbers also struck at a Morecambe newsagents later the same day.

Teenagers wielding a kitchen knife robbed a 66-year-old newsagent owner -- for a handful of chocolate bars.

The pair entered the shop on Seaborn Road, Morecambe at 12.40pm at Seaborn Road, Morecambe.

The woman was asked for cash, but none was handed over. The youths were scared off when the woman called out to a customer. They grabbed a few chocolate bars and ran off. The first youth is described as a white male, 15 to 16 years old, 5ft 6in to 7ins tall, of medium build, with a very spotty complexion, wearing a cream jacket, cream baseball cap with blue piping.

The second, also a white male aged 15 to 16 years, 6ft tall, of slim build with a clean/fresh complexion, wearing navy trousers, a navy bomber jacket and a hat that was possibly a rolled up balaclava.

The spokesman added: "We want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who saw these two men making their way from the scene."

Police have not suggested any link between the two crimes. Both are being investigated by Morecambe CID.
