THE victim of a brutal sexual assault in Lancaster has described her attacker as extremely dangerous and warned the public that he needs to be caught as soon as possible.

Three weeks after she was knocked unconscious and assaulted while walking home from a Lancaster nightclub the brave 32-year-old has called on the public to help police catch the attacker who struck in the early hours of Sunday April 1.

"He was very calm and he is a very dangerous man... we need to get him caught," she said in a supervised interview with reporters earlier this week. "This man needs to be caught as soon as possible. I wouldn't want this to happen to anybody else," she said.

Since the attack, in which her jaw was broken, the woman's life has been turned upside down.

"I have been generally scared.... scared and frightened to go to the shops. I am very upset but I'm also very angry that he has done this to me," she explained. She also reiterated a warning to other women that they should not walk home alone. The attack happened at around 3am on Moor Close after she had been to a city centre nightclub.

"I usually get a taxi but this time I walked home alone -- you just don't think this kind of thing will happen," and she warned other women, "always let someone else know where you are going, don't walk home alone and try to have someone with you. Keep to well-lit areas."

Her attacker struck after she left a club in North Road and walked along Stonewell and up Moor Lane and police have issued descriptions what the victim was wearing as well as the attacker in a bid to trigger someone's memory. She is 5ft 2ins tall and was wearing a pink teeshirt, red trousers and shoes and was carrying a black handbag.

Her attacker, a white male is described as 5ft 4 ins tall, wearing a white long-sleeve jacket, possibly with a zip and black and white small-check trousers. He had spiky, blond hair and may have been wearing a hat. Despite her trauma the woman, who will start seeing a counsellor next week, is determined not to let her attacker win.

"I am not going to let him beat me," she stressed, "this will make me stronger. But please anyone who thinks they know this man should call the police immediately."
