THE ex-undergraduate who wrote to The Citizen recently obviously doesn't get out much because if she did she'd soon realise why students aren't busting a gut to live in sunny Morecambe.

Why in God's name, even with an intercity running every five minutes between Lancaster and Morecambe, would they wish to leave a youthful, cosmopolitan, vibrant and thriving Lancaster that has everything they need and move to a depressing, dull, poverty-ridden ghost town like Morecambe where the nightlife is absolutely naff.

I lived in the West End for seven years and hated every minute of it. I couldn't get out of the dump fast enough. I now live in Lancaster and it's the best move I ever made. So what if there's an abundance of cheap accommodation in Morecambe? Who wants to live amongst the poverty, squalor and unsavoury characters that occupy a large part of the town?

As a student myself I'd rather pay a few quid more and live in the heart of the action and hitch a free lift to campus than pay less for a flat and have to spend a fortune travelling to and from the university.
