A BID to reduce crime -- and people's fear of crime -- has been relaunched across the Fylde by Lancashire Constabulary.

Operation Reassure has seen police arrest a number of suspects believed to be responsible for violence, burglary and car crime.

The co-ordinated initiative which is Lancashire-wide will last until Sunday (April 29) and is phase two of a police operation where 200 extra officers have been deployed from Preston HQ to assist in high-visibility police patrols in towns and villages.

Det Chief Supt Adrian McAllister said: "Operation Reassure aims to reassure the public of Lancashire that the Constabulary is committed to reducing crime and fear of crime.

"We aim to do this through problem-oriented policing that is intelligence-led, with the main focus on those offenders suspected of committing crimes that cause the most public concern, including house burglaries, car crime and violence.

"While the police can make every effort to reduce crime through arrest days and other crime prevention measures, we need continued support from the communities of Lancashire.

"We would encourage anyone who has information about any crime or criminals to call Crimestoppers on (0800) 5551121 where all calls are treated in confidence."

The force website -- www.lancashire.police.uk -- is currently publicising mug shots of wanted offenders.

Ian Singleton, the force's Internet officer, said: "By posting pictures on the site of people the police need to trace, it means the force will have an additional 200 pairs of eyes looking for those suspected criminals."
