RESIDENTS living on unadopted streets in Rossendale will be trying to get a reduction in their council tax because they are playing for a service others get.

More than 120 people packed a public meeting to pledge their support for a new group to fight to upgrade their roads.

Bacup postie Dale Connearn organised the meeting at Bacup Cricket Club after he realised there was a large number of unadopted streets in the Bacup and Stacksteads area.

Father-of-three Dale, who lives on unadopted Bankfield Street in Stacksteads, said: "There were so many people at the meeting some had to sit on the floor at the back of the room.

"We are going to fight to get a reduction in our council tax, not a new tax band, just a reduction so we are not paying for the services we are not receiving.

"There are 114 streets in Bacup and Stacksteads which are unadopted and we found out last night that 20 per cent of all streets in the Valley are unadopted, that is 50 miles worth." He hopes to arrange a second meeting within a month and will be contacting all the people who attended last night.
