BACUP BOROUGH 3 - HOLKER OLD BOYS 0
BACUP started with probably their youngest-ever front line with 20-year-old Scott Gilchrist leading the attack, well supported by 19-year-old Nicky Taylor and 15-year-old Martin Peters making his first full debut.
And it took only 10 minutes to get the breakthrough. Bacup won a corner, Dave Thomas' header was helped over the line by Jimmy Gemmell. Damon Gledhill should have made it 2-0 when he was put through one on one on the keeper, but chipped over
On 25 minutes Nicky Taylor picked the ball up from a deep position, played the ball to Dave Thomas, Martin Peters made a blindside run allowing space to open. Thomas played the ball to Paul Wade whose shot was saved but Nicky Taylor was there to slot in the rebound.
Holker had a spell of dominance at the start of the second half, but could not find a way through.
On 60 minutes, Bacup picked the game up again with some good build-up play involving Scott Gilchrist, his unselfish work brought the move of the game on 75 minutes when Paul Waine and Nicky Taylor all combined well with Nicky finishing the move off in style.
Following the introduction Mark Beckier, further attacks were mounted from his excellent balls into space behind the visiting rearguard with Martin Peters, Nicky Taylor and Scott Gilchrist all working well as a unit, but despite desperate defending prevented them from increasing their lead.
