IN reply to Mr Williams' letter regarding Captive Animals Protection Society (CAPS) and their credibility (Citizen, April 5), CAPS has 40 years' experience of campaign and educational work and a wide base in continued public support that has resulted in substantial financial support including many legacies. This has enabled their valuable work for animals to continue and grow.
CAPS' credibility is not in question, unlike Blackpool Zoo, which seems to have conveniently forgotten that they were exposed for using electrick shock treatment on elephants to train them to do circus tricks.
Added to this they deliberately misled MPs, councillors and the public by denying that they had taken this action. Where is the credibility in this behaviour?
It was also revealed by Blackpool Council that the elephants had not only had electric shock treatment but that they had also been winched and stretched. This is well documented.
When will Blackpool Zoo start taking responsibility for their actions rather than trying to detract attention from the real issue by lamely attacking organisations that do nothing to harm animals?
