MORECAMBE MP Geraldine Smith has written to all her constituents asking them to get behind the campaign for a Western Bypass.
The resort's MP claims the 9 km, single-lane bypass is vital for economic regeneration, relieving Lancaster's traffic congestion and providing a boost for Heysham Port.
She told constituents: "In December last year the Government accepted that the building of a new road was the only practical way of resolving the district's traffic problems. They also stated that they could not consider funding the scheme until planning permission had been obtained. The next stage in this process is for public consultation to take place. This is due to commence in the near future and the minority who are opposed to the road will take the opportunity to ensure that their points of view are taken into account."
She added: "It is therefore extremely important that the overwhelming majority of people who are in favour of the road being built are equally as vigorous in registering their support for it."
Geraldine has asked people to write letters of support for the bypass and send them to her constituency office at 26 Victoria Street, Morecambe.
