THE TIME-TABLES, they are a'changing... and there's no bus-stopping your opinions on the changes to Blackpool Transport buses.

Brightly coloured buses, new timetables and routes began on Monday, but some travellers are less than happy about the changes. The Blackpool Citizen went out and about to find out what locals think...

Father and daughter Kenneth and Bonnie Ward, visiting St Annes from Kirkham, said the changes are confusing. "I think it's a lot of rubbish," declared 15-year-old Bonnie. "It's just awkward. I don't think anyone can make head nor tail of it."

Kenneth, 58, agreed. "I can't understand why they've changed it. A lot of people don't even know."

St Annes man Neil Wilkinson said: "I don't think there has been that much publicity about it. I was waiting at the bus stop for a number 11. I waited 15 minutes and nothing arrived and then there were two together! I thought they were every 15 minutes."

But the 40-year-old local government worker said regular users will adapt quickly to the changes.

The Jollys, a married couple visiting the Fylde Coast from Horwich, near Bolton, said simply: "We feel sorry for anyone who is colour-blind. The new system is very awkward and they seem to have got rid of our route."

But not everyone thinks the changes are for the worse. Retired bus conductor Warren Lealand from South Promenade, Blackpool, was full of praise.

"Its a great idea," he said. "The new system is very much like the London Underground, which is easier to understand. Also the buses are brighter, which makes travelling more fun."

Liz Esnouf, Blackpool Transport spokesman, said the new routes and bus stop information were now in place and the changes seem to be going down well.

"We are beginning to assess the reaction," she said. "The changes are being received favourably by many passengers, although there have been one or two teething problems, but we are working to sort those out."

The next change will be to the Mereside and Grange Park route -- line six -- which will be colour coded soon.
