MORE than 200 children filled Central Lancaster High School's hall last Thursday for a songwriting competition on the theme of bullying.

Local charity Bullywatch marked its first anniversary by challenging pupils to write the best song about bullying.

Voice and violin duo Bethany Reed and Estelle Thornber took first prize with a highly-polished performance of Bethany's song 'I've got a life'.

Their prize was to have the song professionally recorded and released on CD by Lowfold Recording Studios.

Chairwoman Dianne Jones said afterwards: "Now we're beginning to sing from the same song-sheet Bullywatch will keep working with local schools, children and parents to make sure that bullying has no place in our schools.

"I'd like to thank all our sponsors and supporters, particularly Central Lancaster High's head teacher Pat Askew for her backing tonight and over the last few months."

Bullywatch was launched a year ago to raise public awareness of bullying and provide support to targets and their parents. More information is available on their website at www.bullywatch.com
