POOL'S victory over Barnet win keeps the Seasiders in contention for a play-off place, but Rochdale's home win against Plymouth on Tuesday means a final placing is now out of Pool's hands.

The Seasiders have three options to get into the play-off place.

If Rochdale draw or lose their last game, which is away at Plymouth, and Blackpool win their remaining game away at Darlington, Pool are in the play-offs.

If Rochdale and Blackpool both win their matches but Leyton Orient lose their last game, Pool again are in the play-offs.

But if Rochdale and Leyton Orient both win Pool will more than likely have to look forward to another season in Division Three.

There is one final hope -- for Chesterfield to face a severe points penalty as punishment on Tuesday (when they face FA charges for a second time following financial irregularities). This could see them to drop out of promotion contention or thrown out of the league altogether.

So Blackpool could then get into the play-offs anyway!

What is certain, however, is that Saturday's last league game of the season at Darlington is going to be a real nerve tingler with Pool's trabelling fans no doubt glued to their radios for news of the other results.

It's not the ideal way to the end the league campaign but in the end Pool have only themselves to blame for failing to secure adequate points after looking secure just over a month ago.

HANDS UP: Paul Simpson celebrates another super strike but it could be too late to save Pool's promotion hopes.
