SEDGLEY PARK are being forced to play a waiting game over their promotion fate.

The Whitefield Rugby Union side stormed to the top of the National League Division Three table after a great winning run in the second half of the season, only to be pipped at the post by Stourbridge for automatic promotion.

A play-off with Cornish side Launceston was on the cards -- and still seems to be the likely outcome -- but the RFU are dragging their feet over a final decision after objections from another of the promotion contenders, New Brighton.

The Foot and Mouth disease is the stumbling block. Clubs have been left with uncompleted fixture lists as they have not been able to play due to restrictions imposed in their areas during the epidemic.

New Brighton want to know how promotion and relegation issues can be decided when some clubs have fixtures to play.

A Sedgley spokesman said: "I think the RFU are waiting to see what the outcome of the New Brighton v Bedford game is at the weekend. That could solve all their problems for them if New Brighton are beaten."
