ACCRINGTON-based Shakers fan Steve Kenworthy is in training for the Leeds Marathon to be held on Sunday, May 20 and is using the event to raise money for the Save Our Shakers fund.

Anyone who wishes to sponsor Steve can pick up a sponsorship form from the Bury Times front office between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

THE Save Our Shakers Golf Day has a major sponsor in PR World Travel.

The local travel agents have outlets in Bury, Radcliffe and Prestwich and their motto is 'First for Service - First for Discounts'.

The event is being held at Walmersley Golf Club on Thursday, May 10 and teams of four are invited to take part at a cost of £200 plus VAT per team.

Food will be provided and there will also be a presentation evening after the event with a wide variety of team and individual prizes to be won.

ASDA's Marketside store are holding another Save Our Shakers event next Saturday (May 5).

The "Kick For a Million" activity is being organised by staff at the Spring Street store and will be staged next Saturday (May 5) between 10am-4pm.

Bury's mayor and mayoress, Councillor Bill Johnson and Mrs Joyce Johnson, are expected to attend the event along with Bury North MP David Chaytor.

A specially-constructed goal for fund-raising sharpshooters will be set up in the store car park and representing Bury Football Club will be former Shakers and Manchester City star Andy Hill who is the club's PFA representative.

The winning competitor will go through to a second round later in the year.

Other attractions on the day include a barbecue, coffee morning, face painting and a quiz.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the club's fighting fund.
