A SECOND patient has died after being found hanging at Leigh Infirmary.
John David Gowan, 48, of Kane Court, Lowton died in Wigan Infirmary to where he been taken following an incident in the psychiatric unit at Leigh.
An inquiry is already under way within Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust following the discovery last week in the unit of the body of 64-year-old Lowton woman Jean Simm of Elm Tree Road.
Regarding Mrs Simm's death Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust have confirmed that an incident occurred on one of the mental health wards at Leigh Infirmary on 23rd April 2001. In a statement a Trust spokesman said: "The Trust is now urgently investigating the incident as part of normal procedures following an unexpected death."
An inquest in to Mr Gowan's death was officially opened and adjourned yesterday.
