DEAF people and the hard of hearing should now find it easier to communicate with Bury Council.

A number of Minicom systems, a text type telephone, have been installed at key local authority buildings.

Councillor Gordon Sharkey, disability spokesman, said the council's previous use of Minicoms had proved very effective.

"Communication can be difficult for people with a hearing problem and hopefully the increased availability of the Minicom systems should help to overcome this," he said.

"We are installing a new lift at Bury Town Hall, which again should benefit people with a disability."
