A WHITEFIELD pensioner had a gun pulled on her by a thief in a bizarre daylight robbery.

The 62-year-old woman was forced to stand clear as the gunman jumped into her top-of-the-range BMW and sped off with the vehicle.

The drama happened at 12.10pm in Sefton Street, Whitefield on Tuesday (May 1).

According to police the victim was being followed by a blue Ford Fiesta. The driver flashed his headlights at the woman and she pulled over.

Detective Sergeant Duncan Heywood of Bury's Operational Police Unit said: "A man got out of the Ford and told the woman he had clipped her vehicle. As she got out to check he pulled the gun on her and threatened her with violence.

"He got in the BMW and drove it away while his female accomplice followed in the Ford."

The Fiesta was later discovered abandoned nearby and the BMW remains untraced.

DS Heywood said: "This style of car theft has been carried out before but it is still a rare occurrence.

"However, we must warn the public to be on their guard against similar robberies."

Anyone who witnessed the car-jacking should contact Whitefield CID on 0161 856 8248 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
