BT will lease the exchanges back that they have sold off, in a move which the former monopoly says will enable BT to focus its business and reduce its responsibilities as a property owner. The deal, also aimed at helping it reduce its £30 billion of debt by a third in 2001, is expected to be completed in the middle of the year.
