JON Kent will try to belie his 21 years in his bid to help Lowerhouse launch a chase for the Transco Lancashire League title for the first time in their history.

The South African all-rounder hasn't yet had much chance to practice with his team-mates because of the weather although his side did manage to get an innings in last Saturday against East Lancs.

It was a game, he said, he'd rather forget as he only put four on the scoreboard.

But he's determined to see if he can find the form he had back home in Natal before he jetted into this 'miserable weather.'

"In the one day competition at home, I got 26 wickets which was the most wickets taken in one day cricket and I was averaging about 25.

"I just hope I can carry this on, and improve it, at Lowerhouse.

"Hopefully we'll win a couple of games, be competitive, and then we'll see where it takes us.

"As a professional, people expect a lot of you and it will be challenging.

"I'm just trying to get used to this weather and the wickets at the moment!"

His form in South Africa has led to him clinching his first international honours -- he has been picked for the South African A side who face India in August.

It means he could miss a couple of Lancashire League games at the end of the season.

"Hopefully it won't be many but it is good to be picked for the A side," he said. "It means a lot."

At the moment, he's still settling in and has been helped by his friends from back home -- Wade Wingfield and Dale Benkenstein who are pro-ing for Nelson and Burnley respectively.

"I'm just getting used to everyone at the club at the moment but I have got Wade and Dale which is nice.

"They understand what I am talking about!

"There will be friendly rivalry when we face each other.

"It is a good league and we'll just see what happens."

It's a double header again this weekend, with Lowerhouse at Accrington tomorrow followed by a home game against Ramsbottom on Sunday.

Tomorrow's other games: Burnley v Church; East Lancs v Bacup; Nelson v Rishton; Ramsbottom v Enfield; Rawtenstall v Colne; Todmorden v Haslingden.
