A LEIGH fuel station which closed on Monday is set to be redeveloped.
Pennington Service Station, near Leigh fire station in St Helens Road, has closed following BP's trend to concentrate on fewer but bigger outlets.
But part of the site is to be redeveloped by Mike Ince who will extend his current car sales and vehicle valeting businesses which operate alongside the station.
Nick Sharples, who has been proprietor of the filling station since 1994, said: "Mike is taking over part of the garage site for his business and the other part will hopefully become a bathroom and ceramics centre.
"I'd like to thank all my customers for their support. People who want BP products will now have to travel to Culcheth or Corner Lane at Hindley.
"It is ironic that the closure has come when Lowton's only other fuel outlet is closed for redevelopment, but that should reopen shortly."
