He had no formal education and lived in an obscure village. Aged 30 he left home, chose 12 very ordinary men and set off on a teaching mission.

Three years later he was betrayed by one of the 12 and sentenced to death by an illegal court, although entirely innocent.

Tortured, beaten and mocked, even His followers forsook him and fled. Nailed to a cross between two crooks he was humiliated and insulted and died aged 33 after a six-hour ordeal.

A complete and utter failure? Absolutely not! The Bible says, "The weakness of God is stronger than men!" 1 Corinthians 1:25.

This apparently weak link was God in human flesh. He defied gravity by walking on water. Wind and waves obeyed His command. He healed the sick, created loaves and fish in His hands, and raised the dead.

He foretold in detail His own death, burial and subsequent resurrection three days later and all that He said came true!

St Paul tells us that, "Christ was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God." 2 Corinthians 13:4. Out of love He became weak like us and offered up His sinless body in order to make atonement for our sins.

'Atonement' means, 'AT-ONE-MENT'. Instead of us being all at sixes and sevens with God, we can be at one with Him.

Paul sums it up like this. "There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5. The word 'mediator' means 'link'. Once we know we can't win over sin we can trust Jesus to become our strongest link with God.
