THE Centurions will be paying special attention on how to handle any future aerial bombardments.

Dewsbury began the attack at Hilton Park two weeks ago and Sheffield continued to exploit what some opposition coaches perhaps perceive as a Leigh weakness.

Coach Paul Terzis knows his side have a problem in that area and admits he will be paying special attention to it in training this week.

"In a way it's a compliment to our defence that they had to resort to constant high kicks. They must have felt they couldn't get through any other way," he pointed out. "But I agree that we are deficient in that area of our defensive game.

"We didn't put enough pressure on the kicker, and that caused us initial problems. Then I don't think we were positive enough under the high bomb when it did come in.

"We've scored something like 20 per cent of our tries from kicks this season, but as the Challenge Cup final proved, you have to be able to defend them as well as execute them."

While Terzis was pleased with the way Leigh stuck to their game plan in the first half, it was a deviation away from instructions that got them into trouble after half time at the Don Valley stadium.

"We planned to take the game to them through our forward pack and dominate the game. I regard our forwards very very highly and was pleased with the way they went about their jobs in the first half. We did lose our way a bit after half time but when we were really under pressure late on, I thought we were able to step up a notch defensively.

Changes

"Considering the number of changes we'd had to make because of injuries our number one priority was to go to Sheffield and come back with both points. We did that."

Further defeats for rivals Keighley and Dewsbury saw Leigh extend their lead at the top to 10 points but Terzis refuses to write any side off.

"We're obvious clear favourites to lift the Minor Premiership but most of the sides in the top eight will be dangerous opponents if we meet in the semi-finals. Rochdale are running into some form and they'll put their hands up and of course Widnes will be there or thereabouts when the whips are cracking. You underestimate any side at your peril. We'll just keep ploughing on trying to win every match and if we do that we might just win something!
