AN amazing sequence of results - the best for the club since the 1992/93 Division One Championship winning season - has seen Atherton LR race through the pack to have the Division Two title in their sights.

That success has already received official recognition. On Tuesday night manager Alan Lord avoided the calamity which usually befalls a team boss being announced as a NWCL Manager of the Month as he saw his Crilly Park side win 4-1 away at Division Two bottom club Oldham Town.

Mike Rhead fed a glorious ball through for Wayne Briddon to round the keeper and slot home the first but Oldham made it 1-1 by the break with a quickly taken free kick. Three minutes into the second half Barry Massay put in a good run and squared for the unmarked Mark Parry at the far post and Jason Holroyd got the third on 62 minutes when he got on the end of a free kick and lobbed over the keeper. Rhead pounced on a bad clearance to slot home the fourth.

Lord says: "Daisy Hill did us a massive favour on Tuesday by holding top side Nelson to a 1-1 draw. We have four games left and it's simple - we have to win them all.

"After Bacup last night we have Bootle away tomorrow, Alsager at home on Wednesday and then a long gap to a game at Castleton Gabriels on Saturday, May 19.

LR have appointed Yvette Clark as Commercial Manager.

Atherton Colls went down 2-0 at home to Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night in the NWCL Division One derby game but gave the title-chasers a real run for their money.

Colls entertain Newcastle Town at Alder House tomorrow and Nantwich Town on Tuesday in their final game of the season.
