STANDARDS at an Oswaldtwistle school are on the up according to the latest report from Ofsted.

Moor End Community Primary School is described as an improving school where pupils achieve good standards of behaviour and personal development within a very caring community.

And chairman of governors, Peter Hughes said everyone had pulled together to make the improvements happen.

" We are very pleased with the results of the Ofsted report and aim to maintain the progress," he added.

Ofsted inspectors reported clear improvement since the last inspection in 1997.

They found that teaching is strong in reception and years 2 and 5 and that 94 per cent of teaching in the school is satisfactory, with 50 per cent being good or better. Standards in key stage 2 subjects such as English, maths and science could be further raised.

Inspectors felt the school provides well for children with special educational needs and the report identified a big improvement in the system for tracking children's progress and evaluating their overall performance.

The school is said to work very closely with parents and the headteacher and staff are very approachable.

The school takes good care of its pupils and staff know them individually, ensuring that children enjoy attending Moor End.

Headteacher, Steve Isherwood, is said to lead and manage the school well, setting clear direction and moving along the right path.
