A LANCASHIRE children's hospice is offering runners the chance to compete in a major new charity road race to be held on the streets of London.

Derian House has secured a number of places for the British 10k Open road race which will be staged on July 21 and is now appealing for people to join in the run.

A host of big name athletes and celebrities have already agreed to take part in the event which will start at the Hard Rock Cafe in Piccadilly and finish at St Paul's Cathedral.

Susie Poppitt, of the Derian House appeals team, said they were delighted to have secured guaranteed places for the run.

"Every year we are approached by people who cannot secure a place in the London Marathon so we are delighted to be able to offer runners a guaranteed place in such a spectacular event," she said.
