AN amazing £6,150 was raised at the duck derby and summer fair organised at St James the Less RC Church, Rawtenstall.
Father David Lupton said about 1,500 people came to the fair and he was delighted with the amount raised which will go towards the church's next major project to carry out work on the tower.
Parishioners organised stalls, eight duck races were held from the back of the church centre to the weir and there was a large raffle of autographed football memorabilia and tickets for Burnley and Blackburn against Manchester City and United.
The church usually has a celebrity -- previously Desert Orchid and Red Rum have opened the fete -- but Fr Lupton said: "We were hoping to have Phoenix the calf, but with the foot and mouth outbreaks in Lancashire it would have been insensitive."
