POLICE have renewed warnings to be on guard against bogus callers after two men tried to con their way into two homes in Blackburn.
Police said the men had posed as council workers and solicitors to try to get into the two houses in Sabden Walk, but had been turned away both times.
The incidents happened last week when the men approached a home owner claiming to be from the council checking for damp. They were turned away, but went to the next door house where they said they were working for an accident claims firm.
Sgt Joanne Lightbown, of Blackburn Police, said: "If anybody receives an unexpected call they should check through the window to see who it is and then ask for identification, either to be passed through the letterbox or with the door chain on.
"We would also ask for people to keep an eye out on older people who can be vulnerable to these bogus callers."
Police said one of the men was in his mid 20s, large build, skinhead hair, wearing a black bubble jacket and black trousers. He was holding a clipboard.
The second man was about 5ft 8ins, thin build, medium length hair, wearing a navy shirt and black jeans.
