JOHN Walsh, who was the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Bury North, turned the loss of the 560 bus service for Tottington residents into an election campaign.

Now, nearly 12 months since the campaign began, the residents are still without their service and John Walsh has not been elected. While I agree that the loss of the bus was unacceptable, this was a local issue and not national. Mr Walsh was criticising Labour's policies while not presenting any constructive remedies himself. It must also be borne in mind that the current policies on transport are Conservative policies of old.

David Chaytor's election was fully justified and hopefully he can continue his good work over the next five years.

Meanwhile, D. E. Armsbey (Your Letters, June 15) criticised Mr Chaytor for not living in the area. I believe that he was born and bred in Bury and his family still live here. By the way, I believe that you never lose your Bury roots. He represents Bury, doesn't he?
