I HAVE, finally, received my copy of the Public Consultation on the bypass.

This tells me that I must base my comments on the information presented in the consultation booklet, which has been collated and published by the council.

Based on the information presented in that booklet we should immediately stop giving any serious consideration to the Western route at all.

From that information the only benefit of the Western over the Northern route would be the regeneration of the Luneside West Industrial Estate. The disadvantages of the Western over the Northern route are hugely disproportionate to the merits of regenerating a minor industrial estate. If the council is not prepared to detail its real reasons for the preference of the Western route, (i.e. the opening up of the green fields along that route to industrial estates and housing), then those reasons are invalid and should be given no consideration at all.

If the opinions of the citizens, on the merits of one route over the other, must be based on information presented to them by the council then that council should be under the same constraints when reaching its decision.
