GRADUATE Richard Booth drew on his creative talents to secure three prestigious art and design awards.

The dedicated 21-year-old of Blackpool and The Fylde College was named overall student of the year, awarded the Holdens Computer Service Apple Award and was one of four to receive the Mary Elizabeth Barrow Award for excellence in art and design.

Richard, who moved to the town to study from Huddersfield, was nominated for the awards by tutors from the School of Art and Design.

The Holdens Computer Service Apple Award, donated by Holdens Computer Service Limited, Preston, is awarded to the student who has shown 100 per cent commitment to all their studies and has consistently produced exceptional work.

Richard was also awarded the Mary Elizabeth Barrow Award -- given to students who have achieved the best results throughout the year. Graham Ayre, BA (Hons) graphic design, Christopher Scholes, BA (Hons) photography and Nicola Bradley, BA (Hons) scientific and natural history, were the other recipients.

Richard gained a first class honours degree in technical and information illustration. He has a keen interest in classic racing cars and is a member of the Vintage Sports Car Club.

"I decided to study at Blackpool because I knew that the School of Art and Design has an excellent reputation and is well recognised within the art and design industry," he said.

Tutor Graham Priestley added: "Richard is an outstanding student who has shown 100 per cent commitment in all his studies and has produced work to an exceptionally high standard.

"He is totally dedicated to his work, he always listened in class and took advice when needed, and as a result he always delivered outstanding results."
