ROSSENDALE are so far finding life in the UniBond First Division to their liking.

They are only two games into the season after a 12 year absence from the UniBond League but have already got six points under their belt.

Two 1-0 wins -- against Matlock and Gretna -- have made Dark Lane an extremely happy place at the present time.

"We are enjoying it at the moment," laughed manager Jim McCluskie. "It couldn't really be much better, two wins, two clean sheets and we have defended well which has been pleasing. But we are not getting carried away."

After winning the North West Counties Division One championship, the gaffer was unsure how his side would fare this season. "I have learnt we can hold our own in this division over the last two games and that is a good thing.

"We were wondering what the league was all about and we were shown it straight away on Saturday.

"I think at first the lads were a little nervous, a bit hesitant, especially as the crowd of 298 was the top one in the division at Matlock.

"But we sneaked a goal and I am happy if we just keep doing that. The start has boosted the confidence of the lads."

Dale have so far been without five players for their first two fixtures -- all of whom could be fighting for a place at home to Stocksbridge Steels tomorrow.

Former Bolton and Rovers player Mark Patterson has returned from his holiday and is set to make his Dark Lane debut.

Jason Heffernan sits out the last game of his suspension but right back Matt Holdworth and new boy Mike Smith should be back in contention.

But striker David Gray will be out for a further five weeks with medial ligament damage.

"I think Mark Patterson will make a big difference and I think we'll need all the experience we can against Stocksbridge," continued the boss.

"They will be a big test for us as they finished fourth last year but we hope we can keep enjoying it. It is a nice experience so far."

One man who hasn't yet found his scoring feet is star striker Craig Sargeson, who fired home 39 goals last season to finish the NWCL Division One top scorer.

"It won't be long," warned McCluskie. "He has been playing well and made the goal against Gretna with a piece of magic.

"I think he will find this division to his liking."
