A LITTLE bit of Lancashire will be going to Australia in the shape of a spectacular patchwork quilt.

The double quilt depicting familiar sights and scenes of the area is the work of college student Janet Spooner, 34, of Central Avenue, Accrington, who has been working on the creation for three years.

The labour of love was started after family friend Marilyn Cooney, who was on a visit home from Perth, spotted one of Janet's story-telling children's quilts. Since then Janet has worked on the creation alongside the children's quilts she makes as a hobby for family and friends.

The quilt, which includes images of well-known local landmarks such as Townley Hall, Burnley, Haworth Art Gallery, the Leeds and Liverpool canal, a Lowry-style view of Avenue Parade, Accrington, and Blackpool Tower, will be taken out to Marilyn, who used to live in Sultan Street, Accrington, later this year.
