DOG owners who want to keep track of their pets can take advantage of a microchipping day in Oswaldtwistle on Saturday.

Owners are invited to the Pet Warehouse in Oak Street where they can get their animals fitted with an identity chip in just a few seconds for £10.

After the pet is painlessly microchipped details are registered on the National Petlog Database, which means if the animal is found by an animal rescue organisation, dog warden or vet, it can be scanned and returned to its owner.

Dog warden Steve Wood said: "It is a very simple procedure which saves the dog going through the stress of being taken to the kennels and reunites it with its owner quickly.

"By law dogs have to wear a collar and tag but if the animal is stolen these are often removed but the chip means the dog can still be identified. It is very important then that owners do have their animals tagged."

The chipping will be carried out between 10am and noon.
