A CAR carrying four people careered into a field, causing a road to be closed for nearly three hours early today.

The Renault Clio crashed into a field off Preston New Road, near to Mire Ash Brow, Blackburn, at 2.30am.

Three males were treated at the scene for minor injuries and a fourth male was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with suspected spinal injuries.

The police closed off Preston New Road at 2.40am to allow the traffic investigation team to examine the scene.

The road was re-opened at 5am in time for the morning traffic.

Sergeant Keith Jackson, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "The car failed to negotiate a bend on Preston New Road which caused the driver to loose control of the vehicle and crash into the field.

"We had to close the road off for a couple of hours to investigate the scene."

Station officer Keith Cunliffe, of Blackburn Fire Brigade said: "We were called to the scene at 2.30am and we were there to assist paramedics lifting the injured man out of the field into the ambulance. He was taken to hospital on a spinal board with suspected back injuries."
