LANCASTER darts ace Alan Warriner will hope to redeem his World Matchplay performance after a disappointing second round defeat to Martin Adams, with a solid show at the Paddy Power world grand prix darts championship in Ireland this week.

Warriner, 39, is currently ranked third in the world rankings and only three points behind the leader can take 'outright; lead if he wins this competition.

He will have to face tough opposition if he is to achieve this almighty feat, as this competition has only had one champion since its inception in 1988 with Phil 'The Power' Taylor winning all three tournaments.

But first Alan must face Andy Jenkins, which will not be the easy first round match which Warriner may have hoped for.

Andy 'Rocky' Jenkins is only just out of the seedings and will be a terrific test of Warriner's temperament and character.

Warriner said: "Andy has been playing really well over the past year, but hasn't really performed in the big televised matches.

"With such a short format whoever gets the luck will get through to the second round."

The action can from Dublin's Citywest hotel can be seen on Sky Sports until Sunday.

The competition features the top 24 professional darts players in the world competing to lay claim to one of the most prestigious titles in the darts calendar.

They are joined by eight amateurs who have qualified through play-offs held by John Barras community pubs throughout the UK and Ireland.
