BURNLEY has become the latest club to be linked with a move for Everton's troubled striker Danny Cadamarteri.

Neither club has commented on the speculation but sources close to Everton have suggested that the player is unlikely to leave before the end of his contract in the summer.

His current wage deal sees him on almost £10,000 a week and that figure has already frightened off interest from first division Millwall and second division Stoke City.

The former England Under-21 player has repeatedly flattered to deceive during his Goodison career since he made his debut as a teenager and manager Walter Smith made it clear he had no future at the club after he was recently convicted of punching a woman while on a night out.

At the time reports suggested that the player had been sacked but he is still at Everton and was watched by a number of clubs during the reserves 3-0 defeat of Blackburn on Tuesday night.

A further complication for any club wanting to sign the 22-year-old has been the fact that in the last few days he has changed agents, although now that switch is complete it may mean a transfer is possible.

The Cleckheaton-born player has scored 13 times in 90 appearances for the Toffees and two seasons ago he had a loan spell at Fulham.

Clarets boss Stan Ternent makes a point of not commenting on transfer speculation but, like every other boss, he is always on the search for players who might strengthen his first team squad.

Whether he believes Cadamarteri fits that bill remains to be seen.
