TEN local teams travelled to Llanberis at the weekend to take part in the FRA Mountain Running Relay Championships.

Clayton-Le-Moors Harriers alone sent six with the 'A' team finishing sixth - a position matched by the ladies.

The veteran men in 16th overall placed fourth in class thanks in no small measure to Mark Aspinall who was the first veteran home in leg one.

Most successful of the three Todmorden squads were the ladies in seventh, arriving back just 30 seconds after the Clayton girls after nearly five hours of racing.

The two clubs vied for position all race long before Mel Wilkinson-Walsh of Clayton went clear on the final stage.

Bowland Fell Runners fielded two teams with the senior men placing 11th.

One local winner was Russell Owen who competes in England as a Darwen Dasher, but back in his homeland he becomes an Eryri Harrier.

Running the second stage with his partner Gwynfor Owen he closed the gap slightly on fellow Darwener Graham Schofield who was running for veteran leaders Horwich.

The veteran's race was finally decided in Eryri's favour on the fourth and last stage.
