A DATE has been set for the trial of a Blackburn man accused of smuggling almost £1million-worth of cannabis into the country.
David Green, 34, was remanded in custody at Canterbury Crown Court after pleading not guilty to importing the Class B drug. He was arrested by HM Customs and Excise officials in August as he left a ferry from Calais and tried to pass through the Eastern Docks at the Port of Dover in Kent.
The total amount of the cannabis allegedly recovered was around 298kg, an amount with a street value of £900,000.
Green, whose address was given in court as Boxwood Drive, Feniscowles, was charged with importation of illegal drugs on August 3.
He appeared before magistrates in Dover for a committal hearing on September 20 where the case was sent to crown court.
The case was placed in the warned list for a three-day trial at Canterbury Crown Court for the week beginning December 10.
